Job Summary

The Excavator Operator requires an understanding of safety protocols and operational efficiency. The operator must be able to interpret varying ore grades and make informed decisions regarding their allocation to respective storage areas. It is essential to have detailed records of production loads, ore descriptions, and their locations. Maintaining optimal ore grades and appropriate berm heights is crucial to the operation. The applicant is also expected to demonstrate proficiency in basic maintenance tasks such as fueling, minor repairs, and other ancillary duties as deemed necessary. Also, a willingness to cross-train on alternative equipment as needed.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

·         The ability to operate various heavy equipment as needed to meet production demands.

·         Establish and sustain specified grade levels, ranging from level surfaces to varying percentages (e.g., 2%, 8%, 10%), as directed by the mine supervisor.

·          Skillfully and effectively construct essential drainage infrastructure, including drainage ditches, retention basins, French drains, sump ponds, etc., when required.

·         Execute basic mining projects, encompassing ore control activities from extraction to separation.

·         Keep an adequate record of daily tasks and work permits.

·         Perform comprehensive pre-shift inspections of equipment.

·         Maintain the Elementis safety culture team environment and promptly report any near misses and incidents to the mine supervisor, mine manager, and HSE manager.

What will it take

Position Requirements

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

Experience:

  • 3 years of experience operating various equipment, including haul trucks, water trucks, loaders, graders, dozers, excavators, blast hole drills, forklifts, and a screen plant, and can easily learn other mine equipment if needed.

Special Requirements and Independency:

  • Have and maintain a valid California driver’s license.
  • Must be able to work overtime if needed.
  • Must be able to be ATF Cleared and work with and around explosives.  

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs., stand, walk, reach, stoop, squat, climb ramps & stairs, push and pull, reach at or below waist level and occasionally overhead, drive (forklift), hear, understand, and distinguish speech and other sounds (machinery alarms). This position works in an open pit mining facility and will work indoors, outdoors, and inside of air-conditioned equipment.
  • This position requires a fit for duty physical.

IT Skills:

  • Basic Computer knowledge of Microsoft programs.

Language Skills:

  • Ability to read and write in English.

Problem Solving:

  • Possessing the capacity to recognize challenges and make sound judgments to select the most optimal solutions.

Teamwork/Management:

  • Demonstrate skills in effectively working with teams and management to ensure a safe worksite.

Communication:

  • Exhibits proficient verbal and written communication abilities.

Salary Range

The base pay rate is $36.57. In addition to hiring pay, compensation package may include additional components such as health benefits, life insurance, 401K, vacation.
