Job Summary

The Mine Supervisor oversees the operations of an open pit mine including production scheduling, training on heavy equipment, surveying limits and blast design, purchasing, ore inventory, and all associated responsibilities. Ideally the candidate will have hands-on type of approach to site supervision with a view of implementing best practices, developing and maintaining a high-performance team, and creating a culture of continuous improvement and safety that conforms to all mining related regulations by all governing parties.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

·        Ensure and promote the safety of all employees to the highest levels.

·        Enforce the terms of the labor contract and maintain a positive labor relation with employees.

·        Responsible for contributing to and implementing an operational short-term mining strategy consistent with the long term mine plan to build and maximize synergies across disciplines, while integrating activities to improve operational efficiencies and effectiveness.

·        Implement the most effective technology and best practices in all areas of mining operations.

·        Establish a culture of continuous improvement by leading through Elementis Values.

·        Ensure the application of best practice and the Elementis systems, procedures and standards as applied across all activities progressing towards “World Class” standards.

·        Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations from OSHA, MSHA, and other regulatory agencies.

·        Ensure the site is operated within company quality, environmental and safety standards.

·        Submit accurate reports both verbally and in writing as required including the mine monthly summary report.

·        Conduct and maintain records of daily, weekly, and monthly inspections of all parts of mine and screening operation, safety discussions/training, time sheets, and personnel schedule management.

·        Train and assist with training of personnel on heavy equipment, safety, and all other training.

·        Maintain records of training records, tasks, and maintain operator efficiencies and improve benchmarks.

·        Blasting layout design, scheduling, explosive inventory, and meeting with blast crew before shot days.

·        Maintain ore inventory records.

·        Manage ore yards, roads, dumpsite, and drilling pad management.

·        Order materials as required using ERP, web-based platforms, and applications.

·        Direct personnel to ensure that everyone works safely within their work environment. Reports any near misses and incidents to the Mine Manager and HSE manager.

What will it take

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent Associate’s degree in business or related field is preferred

Experience:

  • 1-2 years’ experience supervising at an open pit mine, preferably with Union Operation, or 3-5 years’ experience as a high-level miner i.e. senior position and/or blasting and heavy equipment experience.

Special Requirements and Independency:

  • Have and maintain a valid California driver’s license.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid California Blasting License.
  • Must be able to be cleared through A.T.F to work with and around Explosives.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs., stand, walk, reach, stoop, squat, climb ramps & stairs, push and pull, reach at or below waist level and occasionally overhead, drive (forklift), hear, understand, and distinguish speech and other sounds (machinery alarms). This position works in an open pit mining facility, and will work indoors, outdoors, and inside of air-conditioned equipment.  
  • This position requires a fit for duty physical.

IT Skills:

  • Basic Computer knowledge of Microsoft programs.

Language Skills:

  • Ability to read and write in English.

Problem Solving:

  • The ability to identify problems and decide on the best solution.
  • Ability to coordinate a team to solve problems in a safe and efficient manner.

Teamwork/Management:

  • Ability to direct and coordinate a team and managers for a safe worksite.  
  • Ability to direct daily operations of a mine coordinating with staff and external contractors as necessary.
  • Ability to coordinate with contractors and regulatory agencies.

Communication:

  • Demonstrates proficient oral and written communication skills.

Salary Range

The base hiring range is between $85,330.55 - $104,292.90. In addition to hiring salary, compensation package may include additional components such as health benefits, life insurance, 401K, vacation and yearly bonus incentives.
