Job Summary

The Production Supervisor, Training & Relief provides plant day-to-day support of the plant and Production Supervisors. This position will work a typical day shift (Monday – Friday, 7 AM – 3 PM), but will provide vacation relief to Production Supervisors for a 24/7 rotating shift operation. This role will assist with SOPs, partner with the run engineer on processes, and manage 8 hourly team members. This position will provide communication, coverage, training, etc.

Job Description

1.    Provide direction, motivation, and support to the Production Supervisors focusing on safety, quality, equipment, cost, and work processes.
2.    Able to work flexible schedule that allows supervisory coverage when needed for vacations, special projects, and other plant needs that arise.
3.    Develop and maintain plant process training material content and qualification assessments.
4.    Assure all regulatory and refresher training (for shift employees and shift supervisors) is completed according to published plans and schedules.  
5.    Coordinates annual reviews of assigned procedures/policies, including operating manuals, ensuring appropriate accuracy, etc.
6.    Works with Production Supervisors to find adequate coverage for operators who will not be able to work their regular shift due to sickness, accidents, family emergency, etc. Maintain operator schedule.
7.    Maintains operator and Production Supervisor records for training, attendance, and overtime hours worked.
8.    Verifies time cards and assists Production Supervisors and Operations Manager with payroll functions.
9.    Drive, facilitate, and assist in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) in response to HSE issues, downtime or output reduction events, quality failures, or Key Performance Indicator (KPI) deviations. 
10.    Support sites commitment to ISO 9001 Quality Management System, Quality Objectives, and other goals applicable in accordance with the Quality Policy
11.    Maintains qualifications and participates in shift emergencies. Performs emergency first aid, CPR, fire protection, and HAZMAT response.
12.    Ensure short- and long-term corrective actions are being executed according to plan.
13.    Assist with generation and report out of weekly/monthly reports with targets.
14.    Review and track manufacturing Key Performance Indicators (KPI) including leading problem solving for negative trends, goals not met, operating efficiency, and cost control.
15.    Implement all Elementis safety management controls, programs, and policies. Enforces safety and housekeeping standards for area to maintain plant standards.
16.    Ensure subordinate’s activities are in compliance with all Federal, State and Local laws, regulations, and environmental operating permits (OSHA, EPA, EEO, NPDES, etc). 
17.    Maintains positive plant morale, supports all plant policies, and interprets them for subordinates.  Assures subordinate’s fair and equitable representation and participation in HSE Committee activities.
18.    Promotes performance to all employees. Specifies to the operator acceptable work habits and if substandard, retrains, corrects, or instigates disciplinary action.

What will it take

Physical Requirements

Capable of successfully passing a medical evaluation for respirator clearance and fitting, and adept at wearing a respirator during physically demanding tasks. Able to fulfill the criteria outlined in the hearing conservation program. Proficient in standing and walking for extended durations, as well as climbing. Regularly engages in kneeling, squatting, bending, stooping, twisting, and reaching overhead with repetitive motions. Capable of lifting and/or carrying loads up to 55 pounds unassisted, with a maximum limit of 100 pounds. Demonstrates the ability to wear necessary personal protective equipment as mandated.

Position Requirements

Education: Associate degree or higher in chemical engineering, processing, technology, or related field.

Experience: 5 years’ supervisory experience in a specialty chemical plant or similar

IT Skills: Proficient user of computer software including Microsoft Suite, ERP software, and DCS systems.

Labor Relations:  Experience managing in a Union environment.

Traveling required: 0% of travel required.
