Job Summary

The System Engineer serves as a vital resource for Operations by applying technical skills to safely support systems controls for the plant. The System Engineer enables the safe and reliable production at a low cost that meets or exceeds the customer requirements. This role requires in-depth conceptual and practical knowledge in job discipline and basic knowledge of related job disciplines to solve complex problems. The Systems Engineer will also work closely with other individuals and teams to maintain production, maintenance coordination, and conversion cost goals; within safe operating parameters and procedures.

Job Description

  • Owns day to day troubleshooting of control system operations
  • Respond urgently to plant issues and emergencies.
  • Works closely with the operations team leveraging their problem solving skills and technical expertise.
  • Interface with outside controls contractors for multiple systems & large projects
  • Interface with corporate IT to support at the site level
  • Act as a unit technical expert during unplanned events and execute the effective corrective and preventative actions.
  • Provide expertise in the diagnosis and optimization in plant operation.
  • Responsible for improving the technical skills of operations team members, train operations as necessary on control system changes and upgrades.
  • Understand site integration and provide input to optimize the manufacturing process.
  • Drive high levels of safety, quality, responsiveness and reliability for the customer.
  • Mentor new engineers in on site processes/technology
  • Lead or assist in RCA/CA to improve site HSE performance.
  • Maintaining/monitoring of key operating metrics.

What will it take

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering required, Chemical, Automation or Electrical Engineering preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years years of experience in Manufacturing and Engineering required; in the chemical industry preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience and training in Aveva / Wonderware suite of programs (Intouch, InBatch)
  • Experience with Schneider PLCs preferred
  • Experience with Endress & Hauser, Emerson and Vega instrumentation preferred
  • Experienced in troubleshooting control cabinets & electrical components
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills required.
  • Capacity to work with limited supervision and support, in a rapidly changing and fast paced environment.
  • Must possess demonstrated ability to teach/train staff members at all levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact in a collaborative manner with other departments, teams and stakeholders.
  • Fluent verbal and written skills required to be able communicate within the operations team and with other Elementis departments.
